Dallas D. Furman of Kingsville, Texas, passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 83. Dallas' life was marked by his long and devoted service to his country. In 1957, Dallas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the rank of private and retired at the rank of captain in 1978. He served as an enlisted man, warrant officer and a commissioned officer over the period of his 21 year career.
Dallas learned to fly during his time in the Marine Corps ultimately achieving his Air Transport Pilot license. After his retirement, Dallas was a charter pilot for Tiger Aviation in Harlingen, Texas and later a pilot for King Ranch. In 1984, Dallas began as a flight instructor at NAS Kingsville and there he remained until his retirement. At every opportunity, he went flying and loved traveling the world with his wife Rita, the love of his life.
Dallas was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Rita Dorine (Anderson) Furman; his mother, Olive Josephine (Buckman) Furman; his father, Austin Derwin Furman; and his sister, Lila Jeannine (Furman) Arganbright.
He is survived by daughter, Kelly Sue (Pier) Cappelatti; son, Dallas Wayne (Jena) Furman; sisters, Marsha Lee Kirkland and Tamara Kay Cheuvrot. Furthermore, he leaves behind grandchildren, Timothy Paul Miller, Rita Dawn Gibson, Jessica Lynn Wingate, and Brayden Michael Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Justin David Gibson, Vivian Nichole Gibson, and Layla Grace Wingate.
A celebration of life will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at American Legion Ernest L. Anderson Post 99, Kingsville, Texas.
Full military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
