Cruz Serna Olivarez, Jr.

Cruz Serna Olivarez, Jr., a loyal employee who worked for VT Collins for over 45 years, has sadly passed away on July 7, 2023. Born on July 15, 1941, in his beloved hometown of Kingsville, Texas, Cruz was a kind and friendly person who touched the lives of many.

Throughout his life, Cruz found joy in various aspects. He had an immense appreciation for norteño music and could often be found tapping his feet to its lively rhythms. Family events were particularly special to Cruz, especially the moments he shared with his late wife, Meli; dancing together brought them endless happiness and countless cherished memories. 

Cruz has left an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, dedication, and love will forever be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey. As we gather to celebrate his life and mourn his passing, let us find solace in the memories we hold dear and carry his spirit with us always.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Hermelinda Vela Cruz; parents, Cruz G. and Eva S. Olivarez; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Hector Olivarez and Arturo (Irene) Olivarez; sister, Eva Olivarez Recio; sister-in-law, Lupita Vela Cruz; grandchildren, Albert Olivarez, Kathy Olivarez, Anthony Olivarez, Arturo Olivarez, Jr., Amanda Garza, and Adam (Lauren) Olivarez; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m.  A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
