Celso Abundez, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, peacefully passed away at home on June 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Kingsville, Texas. Born on February 10, 1938, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Juanita and Julian Abundez. He was a man of remarkable talents and boundless love for those around him.
For 58 years, Celso dedicated his life to his craft as a taxidermist, a profession that blended artistry with meticulous skill. However, it was his passion for music that truly defined his soul. He played bass guitar in numerous bands that included Cruz Torres, Conjunto Koronna, Conjunto Brindis, Los Hermananos En Cristo, Leonel DeLaPaz, and Conjunto Joe Buentello. In 2014, he achieved the proud milestone of being inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame, a testament to his incredible talent and the indelible mark he left on the music community.
Celso was known for his loving and caring personality, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether they were familiar or strangers. He cherished spending time with his family, indulging in his hobbies, which included fishing and restoring guitars. His commitment to his craft and his family created a legacy of love and dedication that will endure.
Celso is survived by his sister, Sofia Flores; sons, Raymond Abundez Sr. and Celso Abundez Jr.; daughter, Sandra Abundez; as well as 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, who will carry his memory forward with love and respect.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Angelita P. Abundez, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since 1958. He is now reunited with his daughter Gracie Abundez Silguero; his parents Juanita and Julian Abundez; his sisters Julia Rodriguez, Manuela Benavides, Carolina Villareal, Margarita Perez, Ernestina Olivarez, and Elida Morin; and his brother Fidencio Abundez.
A visitation will be held on June 8, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas. A funeral service will take place the following day on June 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the same location, with interment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery after.
Celso Abundez’s remarkable life and the joy he brought to all who knew him will be deeply missed, and he will forever remain a cherished presence in the hearts of his family and friends.
