Bryan Taylor Cage

Obituary

Bryan Taylor Cage went to join the ones who left before on January 23, 2019, in Austin, Texas at the young age of 63.

Taylor was a twin to his sister Jody but always liked to say he was older than her. He was born in Kingsville, TX about 10 minutes before her early morning October 3, 1955. Though Jody was always his boss and everyone knew it. Taylor was kind to all with a big heart in many ways. It was his heart and diabetes complications that were his cause of death. His parents were Margaret Odell Rogers Cage and Joe Bryant Cage of Bishop, TX. Both parents died too young (mother at 55 and father at 47) leaving Taylor, Jody, and Kathleen (the actual oldest) orphans.

Taylor was a character that everyone remembered. He was a son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, scholar, poet, genius, actor, hard worker and dear friend to many. His jobs were necessary but not what drove his life. At the time of his death, he was a longtime employee of the Texas Pardon and Parole Board in Austin. He lived in Sonoma, CA for about ten years and worked at the Jack London Developmental Center. He graduated from Texas A&I University with a triple major of English, journalism and theatre art and worked at Young's Pizza while in college. Taylor's wit and talents could entertain people for hours. On Saturdays, he hosted his radio program, Queer Waves, on Austin Public Radio for many years. His family will always think of Taylor when they see a tie-dyed t-shirt, a black vest or a serape jacket.

Surviving Taylor is sister Jody Cage Harper (Howard) of Charco, TX and their sons Jerad and Jason; sister Kathleen Cage Mittag (Gene) of Bishop, TX and their son Josh and grandson Reid Mittag; and cousins Sharron Vest(Pat) and J. P. Vest, Jr. (Wendy). Taylor had many friends wherever he lived and never met a stranger.

Visitation will be held on January 27, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Turcotte Piper Mortuary Kingsville, TX
