Barney "Mike" May

Barney “Mike” May, 80, passed away on September 26, 2020, in Kingsville. He was born on June 12, 1940 in Texon, Texas to Barney Lee and Doris May.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Doris; sister, Pat Miller; and nephew, Leonard S. “Butch” Huskey Jr.

Mike is survived by his sister, Rosemary (Leonard) Huskey; niece, Deborah (Randy) Branstetter; nephews, Paul Miller, and Stephen (Sabra) Miller; and great-nephew, Connor Branstetter.

Mike was a graduate of H.M. King High School and received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Texas A&I University.  He served in the Marine Corp and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant before returning to civilian life and pursuing a career as a Petroleum Engineer/Project Manager with Schlumberger, which took him on adventures to China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.

Mike’s retirement years were spent in Kingsville.  He enjoyed playing golf and reminiscing with family and old friends.  He loved sharing off-the-wall jokes, stories about childhood memories, college escapades, adventures in the oilfields, and living in Thailand.  Mike always had a willingness to help others.  We will miss that about him.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 2:00pm at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville.
