Barbara Sorensen

Raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dr. Barbara Sorensen passed away in Kingsville, Texas, on Friday, April 15, 2022. Barbara, an only child, was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on September 24, 1930, to Helen L. and Martin Emmett Sorensen. A history professor at Texas A&I University, now Texas A&M Kingsville, Barbara's career was from September 1969 to January 2002. She received her Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Kansas. With fondness, she often reflected on her advanced studies in England and her education with the Jesuits.

A long-time member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Barbara's faith was the center of her life. She regularly attended daily Mass and served as a lector and an extraordinary minister. She was a member of the Kleberg County Historical Commission, Kingsville Garden Club, the Music Club, and the University Book Club. She also served as a board of director for the Conner Museum. Taking great pride in detail, she held various positions and chaired many committees.

A holy rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2022, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church; with a memorial mass to follow. Services will conclude after mass.
