Obituary

Arthur "Art" passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 after a brave and tireless battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of immense love, strategic brilliance, and unforgettable storytelling. Through every treatment, he fought with unwavering tenacity, wanting nothing more than to remain by the side of his beautiful wife.

Art was an exceptional businessman and a brilliant financial strategist. His legendary career started humbly when he sold Hoover Vacuum Cleaners as a young man. Discovering a natural gift for sales, he transitioned into the insurance industry, where he built a thriving independent agency from the ground up. Over his illustrious career, Art was highly decorated, earning numerous accolades including the American Amicable Hall of Fame, the Pioneer President’s Cabinet, AFLAC Fireball Award, and multiple Salesman of the Year awards spanning multiple decades. He was a master negotiator and an expert in estate planning, earning a degree in the field from Stetson University.

Art proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed on the USS Enterprise—the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. He proudly earned the title of Golden Shellback for crossing the equator at the 180th meridian. Art was a survivor of many things, including the jaw-dropping story of being run over by a fighter plane—an incredible tale his family will forever cherish.

A devoted husband & family man; Art met Angie in Marietta, Georgia, in 1993, and the two were married in Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 20, 1994. She was the absolute love of his life. He affectionately called her his "Yellow Rose of Texas," showering her with gifts, jewelry, and daily roses, and never let a night go by without kissing her goodnight. Together, Art and Angie enjoyed traveling to exotic destinations like Jamaica, Hawaii, Mexico, and Switzerland, as well as cruising and visiting casinos.

Art was a man of a million stories with a photographic memory; he could recall the exact year, model, and engine size of every car he had ever owned and kept all of his childhood memories vivid. An exceptional tennis player and avid swimmer, he also had an extensive collection of chess sets. He proudly taught his nephew, Andy, the game, using the chessboard as a way to teach Andy how to navigate real-world challenges with a cool, strategic head. At home, Art possessed a "green thumb," cultivating a beautiful backyard garden filled with fruit trees and vegetable plants. He loved barbecues, hanging out with the guys, friends and family, or simply enjoying sweets and a slice of his favorite German Chocolate cake.

Art’s humility, patience, and caring spirit touched everyone who met him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Angie, his extended family, and the countless friends whose lives he enriched.

He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanthlin Raye Middleton; parents, Arthur Delmas Sr., and Ima Jean Winget; in-laws, Salvador, Sr. and Petra Barrera; and brother, Robert Winget.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Eva A. Winget; children, Rhonalin Middleton and James Edwards; his three children; grandchildren, Brittany Linares, Logan Middleton, James Thomas Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Adam Edwards, and Michael Edwards; great-grandchildren, Serenity Linares and Dallas Anthony Linares; siblings, Joe Winget and Michael Winget; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 1:00 p.m. and a chapel service celebrated at 1:30 p.m. A rite of committal and interment with military honors will follow at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mari Chapa, who became much more than a caregiver and was truly considered part of the family. Your compassion, kindness, and unwavering support brought comfort, dignity, and peace to Arthur and to all who loved them. Your devotion and presence will always be remembered with deep appreciation and love.
