Antonio Torres

Antonio Torres, age 94, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 in Kingsville surrounded by family. He was born August 22, 1920 in Kingsville to Tomás and María del Rufugio Torres.
Mr. Torres was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Avelar Torres to whom he was married 59 years, a brother, Guadalupe Torres, two sisters, Consuelo Reyes and Maria de la Luz Torres.
Mr. Torres was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad and Naval Air Stations in Corpus Christi and Kingsville, Texas. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Martin's Catholic Church. Mr. Torres was a highly decorated WWII U.S. Army Infantry veteran. He was wounded in France in 1944 for which he received the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for valor and numerous other service awards.
He is survived by four sons, Tony Torres (Lupita) of Garland, TX, Tomás Torres of Corpus Christi, TX, Raul Torres (Maggie) of Mc Allen, TX, and Joe Torres (Terri) of Midland, TX; four daughters, Rosie (Will) Phillips of San Antonio, TX, Connie (George) Weir of Kingsville, TX, Anna (John) Velasquez of Denver, Colorado, and Margie (Ysidoro) Perez of Portland, TX. Mr. Torres is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited by the St. Martin's Catholic Daughters of America and Sister Maxie at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Martin's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Kingsville at the Santa Gertrudis Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Funeral Military Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Missionary Daughters of The Most Pure Virgin Mary (Nuns) at 919 N. Ninth St. Kingsville, TX 78363.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
