Antonio Hernandez passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025at the age of 82. Throughout his life, Tony demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his family and community, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. Tony was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to many. He was a great listener and friend; and he always asked for everyone even if no one asked about him. He enjoyed visiting with people.
He was a long-time community member of Lulac in Kingsville, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Catholic Youth Leader, an avid volunteer for Stations of the Cross every Easter, and a 4th degree knight for the Knights of Columbus. He was also a volunteer with the Red Cross and Riviera Fire Department. He worked various jobs including Celanese, Kleberg County Maintenance Department at Spohn Hospital, Super S, HEB, Wright’s Plumbing, a Security Guard in Corpus Christi, while befriending many who came his way. He was always smiling and joking while passing his joy to others. He was an avid fisherman who loved to call the fish “Here fishy, fishy!” He loved camping overnight by Baffin Bay with Drum Point and Site 55 as his favorite spots. Boy, would he catch some! He loved to dance the Charanga song, it was one of his favorites. His favorite pastime was watching football "The Cowboys," of course, sitting outside BBQing while listening to Tejano, drinking beer and relaxing.
He resided at Casa Ricardo for many years and made many friends in the community there. In his last years he was a resident at Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where they took very great care of him and had so much compassion for him. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us care for him. He always kept his faith even in the loneliest times and always had his Bible with Jesus by his side.
Tony is preceded in death by his son, James Hernandez, Sr.; daughters, Noelia Villarreal and Belinda Hernandez; grandsons, Christopher and Elijah Jerry; parents, Pedro Hernandez Sr. and Olivia Deases Hernandez; brothers, Joe Hernandez, and Angel Hernandez; and sister, Alicia Hernandez;
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Jean (Joe Michael) Garcia; son, Louis “Danny” (Laura Carmona) Hernandez; daughter-in-law, Elvia Hernandez; son-in-law, Balde Ortiz; siblings, Carmen Doughty, Josephine Lopez, Pedro Hernandez, Jr., Steve Hernandez (Marylou) and Doris Hernandez; grandchildren, Matthew, Madilyn, Mikayla, Justin, Lisa, Alexandra, James, Jr., Danielle, Louis “Chuck” Jr., Jessica, Serina, Eric, Matthew, Gary, Ronald, Michael, Jonathon, Adrian, and Jeanette; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
