Anna Maria Esquivel, a beacon of love and warmth, was born on July 26, 1928. She graced this world with her presence for nearly 97 years, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Anna Maria passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by the cherished memories she created with family.
Anita was known for her generous spirit, always welcoming others with open arms and a kind smile. Her warmth filled every gathering, especially during the holidays when her family would come together to share in joyful celebrations. In her kitchen, the exciting aroma of her famous tamales and tortillas surrounded everyone, uniting them in love and laughter. These culinary delights were more than just food; they were a reflection of her dedicated care and passion, the essence of which was felt at every family meal.
In her daily life, Anita found joy in simple pleasures: indulging in her favorite game shows, scenic rides out in the country, tending to her garden, and showcasing her creative talents through sewing and floral arrangements. She had a remarkable ability to nurture beauty not only in nature but also in the lives of those around her; cheering for her grandchildren at their accomplishments and finding immense joy in her church gatherings. Anita truly embodied the spirit of community and connection, fostering relationships that enriched her life and the lives of others.
As we remember Anita not only for the incredible matriarch she was but for the incredible person who touched our lives in many profound and touching ways. Her legacy of love and joy will undoubtedly guide us as we treasure the moments we were lucky enough to share with her. Anna Maria Esquivel's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, forever lighting the path with her warmth and kindness.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Esquivel, Sr.; daughters, Janie Garza and Terri Gutierrez; sons-in-law, Martin Pena, Baldemar Moreno, and Juan Garza; grandsons, O.V. Villarreal and O.J. Esquivel; granddaughter, Jessica Benavidez; and siblings, Lupe Barrientes, Alfonso Ramirez, Lindolfo Ramirez, Hortencia Ramirez, and Alejandrina Ramirez.
Among those left to cherish her sweet memory are her children, Maria Lourdes Pena, Lupe (Dora) Esquivel, Sr., Linda Moreno, Espy (Kim) Hinojosa, and Manuel (Anna Ramirez) Esquivel, Jr.; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended families.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. A rite of committal and interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
Her family would like to thank her loving caregivers from Kingsville Hospice, Dr. Jarin Bryant and Staff that provided wonderful care to her; your kindness will never be forgotten.
