Andrea Lamas Garcia

Andrea Lamas Garcia was born on November 30, 1929, to Jose and Catarina Lamas in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Andrea grew up with her brothers and sisters and soon took on one of her greatest roles as a big sister to Maria, her youngest sibling. The children were orphaned at an early age and Andrea took full responsibility caring for her baby sister. Though the family did not have much, they had a great love for each other that surpassed all obstacles.

The sisters eventually moved to Ingleside, TX and Andrea began a life journey that we would all hear many stories about. She could sit for hours reminiscing about her childhood in such detail you felt as if you were actually living her experiences. Andrea remembered the first time she saw her reflection when she was in a river. She did not know then, but Andrea would continue to grow and leave her reflection in the lives of many.

Andrea became a devoted wife to her husband, Juan B. Garcia, on January 29, 1949. They were married for 52 years, and Andrea cared for him for 23 years while he was bedridden, never leaving his side. She was also a loving mother to her 10 children, and a light to her numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

Andrea had a foundation in Christ, always knowing that Jesus was with her from the beginning and would tell anyone about her deep faith who would listen. She had a huge and generous heart and was always accepting of others. Andrea never treated anyone like a stranger, believing that moments are best shared with others. Andrea enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, playing train, scrabble, dominoes, bingo, slots, and playing cards. She was very active and extremely competitive, instilling the same passions and drive in her family.

Andrea passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 93 ½ at her home surrounded by her loving family. She left a legacy impacting so many lives in so many ways. Andrea will be truly missed but will remain forever in our hearts.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan B. Garcia; daughter, Gloria G. Pena; stepson, Gregorio Garcia; step-grandson, Danny Garcia; grandson, Jose Javier Garcia, Jr.; and granddaughter, Monica Garcia.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her children, Susie (Ramiro) Castillo, Noe Garcia, Juan (Evie) Garcia, Jr., Gracey Reynolds, Jose (Denise) Javier Garcia, Belinda (Carlos) De La Garza, Jesus Garcia, Mary (Rosendo) Loera; sister, Maria Taylor; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Lara, Eddie Lara, Mark Riojas, Robert Richardson, Ryan Richardson, and Brett Arredondo.
