Albert M. Reyna, after a short illness, went home to his final resting place in the early morning of November 24, 2022, at the age of 70, with his wife, Dalia Reyna by his side and right after praying the rosary. His children were with him all during his stay in the hospital. Albert loved his hobbies, coaching baseball in his younger years, playing golf and raising cattle. His love for music lead him to singing while playing guitar, as well as playing the accordion.
Albert Reyna was born April 29, 1952, in Rivera, Texas and was known as “Beto” to family and close friends. The third oldest of seven children, Albert was raised in Kingsville, Texas where he became a Pilar of the Community. Most summers, from a very young age, he could be found on a baseball field playing ball ultimately becoming a starting pitcher for H.M. King High School varsity team as a freshman. After high school he coached his youngest brother which led to him coaching several generations of baseball players over 30 years including his three sons. His unwavering competitive spirit led him to play softball for a Kingsville team named Los Toros in his late 20’s where he inadvertently discovered the game of golf. After taking a bet that he couldn’t hit that little white ball perched on top of a Tee and missing, he was hooked. Albert joined the Pan American Golf Association where he became president of the Kingsville Chapter, also organizing tournaments including charity events. He went on to win the National Tournament for his division in San Antonio, Texas. He even scored a Hole in One on the par 3 fifth hole on his home course, L.E. Ramey. He loved that his three sons and his son in-law shared the love of golf and often played together. To his surprise, he also inspired his only daughter, Alyssa, who lettered in golf in high school.
Albert also had a love for music gifted to him by his father Israel. He could frequently be heard singing through the house and around his ranch. He continually worked on his singing by learning songs that his father sang and from his favorite artist. After retirement, he utilized his spare time improving his skills on the guitar and teaching himself how to play the accordion but only after a full day’s work on his ranchito was complete. Even in retirement Albert enjoyed carpentry, home improvement projects, raising his cattle and most of all spending time with his beloved wife of 50 years, his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
He is proceeded in death by his infant daughter, Analisa Reyna; parents, Israel and Trinidad Reyna; father-in-law, Ysidoro Ybarra; and brother-in-law, Jorge Mata.
Among those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 50 years Dalia Reyna; children, Alberto Omar (Heidi) Reyna and their children, Miriam Izel Reyna and Silas Von Nuncio Reyna, Adrian Oden (Maryann) Reyna and their son, Joseph Delgado Solis, Alyssa Odette (Ruben) Reyna-Flores, and Andres Orlando (Victoria Garcia) Reyna and their son, Ezrian Rush Reyna; siblings, Ida Mata, Israel (Betty) Reyna, Hector (Diana) Reyna, Joel Reyna, William (Selina) Reyna, and Rogelio (Linda) Reyna; in-laws, Norman and Virginia Earls and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and compadres.
The family will receive condolences on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Riviera Cemetery.
Honoring Albert as pallbearers are Brett Altman, Jason Colin, Javier Guerra, Jaime Guerra, Luis Manuel Rodriguez, Emmanuel Sanchez, and Jose Valentine Ybarra.
