Adela Barrientes

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Adela Rios Barrientes, age 60, who left this world peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Hebbronville, Texas, Adela was a proud Hebbronville Longhorn who shone both in the classroom and on the field. She played multiple sports, performed in the Longhorn Band, and was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1982, a reflection of her spirit and the affection her high school held for her. She graduated from Hebbronville High School in 1983 and attended the University of A&I Kingsville, where she continued her education and built lasting friendships.

Adela went on to establish a respected professional career at Naval Air Station Kingsville, where she proudly served in support of U.S. Navy student aviators. Her dedication and kindness helped countless pilots earn their Wings of Gold, and her compassion left a lasting impression on all who worked with her.

She was a bright and joyful soul whose warmth, humor, and love for life touched everyone she met. Her happiest moments were those spent with her family — her devoted husband, Meme Barrientes; beloved son, Christen (Kaitlin Kafka); and cherished grandson, Atlas Grey, the light of her life.

She is also survived by her dear mother-in-law, Yolanda Barrientes “Grammie”; aunt, Alma Rios Silguero; uncles, Jose “Lole” Rios, Oscar “Kiko”, and Lorenzo “Sone;” and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hector G. Rios; mother, Graciela Ramos Rios; brother, Hector “Bibi” Rios; father-in-law, Clarencio “Kento” Barrientes; her paternal grandparents, Victor and Cristina Rios, maternal grandparents, Servando and Guadalupe Ramos: sister-in-law, Gloria Rios; and her beloved aunts, Ramona Ramos, Leonor Moreno, and Ida Charles.

Those who knew Adela will remember her infectious laughter, generous heart, and unwavering love. Her spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The family will recieve condolences on Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; with a liturgy celebrated at 3:00 p.m.  Services will conclude that afternoon.

All who wish to honor her memories and celebrate her life are welcome to attend.
