Abelardo Alvarez

Abelardo P. Alvarez, age 99, peacefully passed Sunday, November 20,2022 at Christus Spohn Kleberg with his family by his side.

Abelardo was born on September 3, 1923, in Port Lavaca, Texas to Jose and Guadalupe Alvarez. Abelardo lived a long and full life where he spent time doing what he enjoyed most like watching football and playing his lottery tickets. Additionally, his most cherished moments were getting together with family and celebrating life together. He humbly admired the world for what it was and always lived his life with purpose.

At an early age of 19, Abelardo enlisted in the United States Army (1942). He served his country as a Technician Fifth Grade, for the 304th Port Company 519th Battalion. He proudly remained in the Army until honorably discharged in December 1945.

Abelardo happily married Elvira Gonzales on May 30, 1942, for 77 years. The two were inseparable and were blessed with 10 children.

Abelardo is survived by his children, Jesus (Meleida) Alvarez, Abel (Sulema) Alvarez, Henry (Rosie) Alvarez, Janet (Ruben) Rodriguez, Ricky Alvarez, Lupita (Jeff) Bogue, David (John) Fishpaw. Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren.

Abelardo was preceded in death by his wife Elvira G. Alvarez, sons Ernesto (Govita) Alvarez, Albert (Juanita) Alvarez and daughter San Juanita Alvarez.

Abelardo lived his retired life in great and social spirit touching the lives of all his grand and great grandchildren. His strength allowed him to live a long life of many decades where he accomplished whatever he put his mind to. Ultimately, he successfully built a prosperous family where many generations will continue to emerge from. He will forever be remembered for his strength and resiliency.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and rosary at 7:00 PM at Turcotte Piper Mortuary. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Martin Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
