Marcelo Silva, age 69, a resident of Falfurrias, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Kingsville. He was born January 8, 1948 in Garciasville, Texas to Raul Silva, Sr. and Elva Saenz Silva. Marcelo was the owner/publisher of the Falfurrias Facts newspaper since 1981. He was an award-winning member of the Texas Press Association and also received the Governor’s Award for community service by former Gov. George W. Bush. Marcelo was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a devout Christian.
Marcelo was preceded in death by his father, Raul Silva, Sr.; and nephew, Raul Silva, III.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Yvonne H. Silva of Falfurrias; two daughters, Clarissa Johnson and husband John of Corpus Christi, Texas and Noelia Elisa Silva of New York City, New York; mother, Elva S. Silva of Garciasville; three sisters, Noelia Ballard and husband Thomas of San Antonio, Texas, Belia Silva of Texas, and Criselda Ramirez and husband Jaime of La Grulla, Texas; two brothers, Francisco Silva, Sr. and wife Alma of Garciasville, and Raul Silva, Jr. and wife Lillian of Corpus Christi; and three grandchildren, Brian A. Silva of Seattle, Washington, Emily K. Johnson, and Julia M. Johnson, both of Corpus Christi.
At Marcelo’s request, a private family graveside service will be held at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, Falfurrias, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any military charity.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
